I Spy Neon

Style inspiration on wearing neon: A cute Rebecca Minkoff neon bag perfectly slung over a loose T and denim.

Striking accents: Her neon necklace is by Sass & Bide.

A playful combo:  The spotted backpack against an oversized neon tank

Laid back chic:  Neon trim Topshop shoes against a monotone outfit.

The Cambridge satchel:  Teamed against earthy tones.

Neon lace:  My little mini from TJ Maxx.

I’m letting you in on a long term secret.  I shop at TJ Maxx and Marshalls on the side. Not too surprising since I shop high and low (except there I find really high for low $$).

The stores asked me to be a style scout in New York and snap the biggest trend in the city and find it at my local Marshalls.  Easy – I picked neons and found these looks all over the streets and in the store (neon sports shorts + knit combo recently tweeted and blogging soon).

When done in small doses neon is pretty.   My favourite was the girl in pic #2 wearing an incredible Sass & Bide neon necklace against a leather T (btw she’s wearing MAC M’orange lipstick which I bought right after we spoke).  Pic # 4 in the neutral colors and flats: I’d wear that look right now.

Twitter followers saw the designer bag pics I tweeted from TJ Maxx’s new Wall Street branch a few weeks ago.  I remember a popular blogger friend of mine asked for the store contact info after hearing about a sold out designer name clutch at another branch for less $$$.  That’s why I pop in there every now and then:  It’s the designer ‘fix.’

ps. I get constant emails asking me to recommend my fave places to shop in New York (check out my Shop Fix list for some of them).  If you’re like me and like scoring current season designer steals then def add those two to your list.

pps. The above neon lace mini is from there (more pics of it in this post).

ppps.  I’m curious if you see neons where you live or a completely different trend?

I’m not a New Yorker but I remember that particular TJ Maxx store as it was just a couple of doors away from my hotel! Darn – I wish I went in now! TJ Maxx (or TK Maxx, here in the UK as you already know) is absolutely amazing for brilliant bargains!!!

Yes TK Maxx – my best friend in London raves and has shown me some brilliant things she scored from there. I’m glad they’re on both sides of the pond

Я люблю неоновые цвета, как хорошо что сейчас это актуально, можно добавить немного яркости и хорошего настроения себе, но там где я живу это модная тенденция вряд ли приживется, разве, что у студентов и школьников.

Since it’s very sunny and hot where I live, most ppl are quite tan. Neons look amazing against a darker skin tone so this trend is huge here.
Love your outfit with the lace skirt! Such an interesting way of combining neon with basic colors.

    • Karen says:

That makes sense then for neon to be big where you are too

The TJ Maxx’s and Marshall’s here in FL are usually a huge hit or miss. Mostly miss. I’ve seen neon on the nails but not so much in clothes or accessories.

    • Karen says:

oh no! I do know that they get in new stock every week so for me I always pop back in. That one trip that I score makes the misses worth it.

I’m not a fan of the second look to be honest. But the rest is great – I love the neaon tank with the spotty backback! And the lace skirt is beautiful. I always shop at TK Maxx, it’s the best place ever. The home department is brilliant too! x

    Lovely Post!

Neon is a HUGE trend in Toronto right now. I have the neon yellow bag in picture #5 from Cambridge Satchel Company and get compliments on it EVERY time I wear it (funny enough from both men and women). Other items that are big in neon are: Nail polish, jeans, heels, bracelets, necklaces (as in picture #2), lipstick, blazers, and the list goes on! Just remember to pair them with some neutrals and you’re good to go.

    🙂

So I live in Paris and of course during fashion week neon is in full force but realisticaly in the street I have barely seen any neon. I guess the french are still quite conservative and classic in their way of dressing. But one trend that we did embrace is the creepers and platform sneakers ! I absolutely LOVE that trend and am going to transition it in the fall with a chunky knit and oversized coat.

I love neon in little pops like this!

    • Karen says:

Me too. That’s it at it’s best.

Loving the really subtle pops of colour – the sneakers and iphone case together are fab. Perfectly judged because they are the same colour family. But I don’t think neons should be mixed ie the first pic with the yellow, orange and red lip – too much for my eye. Like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters 😉 What do you think?

That neon necklace and leather top look amazing together! What a combo : ) xx

      Agreed

I know! I saw it from across the street. It literally glowed

I live in the MidWest, so this trend (if it makes it inward) won’t be around until probably the next summer or two (we Midwesterners tend to be a few years behind the coasts, hence why I’m currently rocking Rihanna’s/Kelis’ short hair style and people think it’s the shit)…we are just now ‘discovering’ the jewel tones and polka dots…

*sigh* Makes it hard for me to be excited at ‘new things’ people are wearing around here when I’ve already seen it and are already on the ‘new thing’…

I feel your pain!!! Annoying ?!
