Staying Natural

We always want what we don’t have.  I was born with naturally curly hair but of course you see it straight a lot of the time.

Ah but I have stories I bet you can relate to. Years ago I dreaded humid summers in New York.  I’d walk out with my hair straight and my fringe would morph into a thatched roof in minutes.

Needless to say, I’ve learned to embrace the curls and work with what my Mum and Dad gave me. This is what I was given so this is what I’m going to run with God damn it!

If you also said sod it and embrace your curls then you can leave a #curlconfession on the Paul Mitchell Facebook and win the full size curl confession line in the process.  note. By 6pm tonight the best images will be projected on the street in NY and LA.   Don’t get me wrong.  I still like the option of going straight (so to speak) but it’s refreshing to have a brand praising curl power.

I think curly girls do have the best of both worlds. I can rock a sleek straight look (even if it is only for a short week) or rock a massive dome of curls.

Can’t wait to go fully curly again. I have been relaxer free for 11 months now. I’ve learned now that I want the best of both worlds too.

So lucky with those curls! I could put my hair in hot rollers and one smidgen of humidity and it’s flat 🙁

Karen what I can root for is Paul Mitchell having the smarts to approach you for their campaign. But what I cannot stomach is the several other bloggers they approach for their curl confessions campaign – several high profile, glossy bloggers who had pin-straight hair; their only “curl” confession was that they didn’t have any.

I do applaud you for embracing your curl, however! Too many curly heads try to flat iron away their natural beauty. As a fellow curly head, I’ve made it a point to embrace my natural curl as much as possible.

I can definitely relate , i’m just now learning to embrace and work with my curls not against them. 🙂

I’m currently 7 months into transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. It’s refreshing to embrace my natural texture and not have to worry about sweating out my hair or being caught in the rain.
