This is not really a trend. It’s a micro trend that I’m sure you have noticed. I’ve seen it in New York since last year but it’s now almost everywhere. Some are flared like the above that I caught last week and mostly seen downtown, but I’ve also (and mostly) seen the hack job on skinny jeans.
Personally I love a quick DIY that completely changes something that you have. I wonder if the raw denim edge started from Marquis Almeda and their designs that I spotted last September when shooting fashion week street style? Or maybe it was originated from trend setters (not followers) years ago on the streets and designers got inspired and produced a high end version and it trickled down to the masses and in turn everyone on the streets got inspired to buy into raw edged denim? So basically coming full circle. I think it’s the latter…
Either way the above look is one of my favorites because of the blazer, socks and old loafers giving the nod to menswear.
Would you hack yours?

I hacked all through the ’90s and early 2000s because a) I am short and jeans/cords were all too long and b) I can’t sew. Glad to see it’s coming back around.
