How I shoot fashion week

I thought I should show you some of what goes into the photos that I take during fashion week.

Usually I take one camera (Nikon D700) but this season I’m using two. The second (Nikon D90) has a wifi chip I bought recently which let’s me wirelessly download photos to my iPhone so I can Tweet or Instagram while on the streets.  Followers have seen them already.

Since last Thursday I’ve been outdoors daily with hundreds of other photographers running from show to show all over the city.  Like the rest of the year I’m looking for styles that catch my eye.

 This is actually my favorite kind of shot because it sums up the typical frenzy.

I make a point to note down what some of my favorites are wearing if they have time to stop.  This is Claire in Miu Miu glasses and a Topshop coat.

Throughout the day I’m reviewing or deleting photos on the back of the camera before downloading.

On that day I wanted to be comfortable so layered a down quilted jacket under a mens tweed coat. The quilt jacket is super warm and thin enough for layering under all my coats and jackets.  I also wore warm leggings and boyish creepers.

I loved this woman’s look. Her coat is Prada.

My working outfit: Maison Scotch mens coat. Athleta quilted puffer jacket and leggings. Shoes: George Cox creepers. Hat: JCrew. Shades: Ray-Ban. Shirt: Mens. Bag: Chanel
I usually don’t show me ‘in action’ so thought it’d make a change.

    As a fellow photographer, I’m ALWAYS interested in what goes on behind the lens.Photography and fashion are two of my great loves. In the ten years that I’ve been a working pro, I find that I often (read always) sacrifice one (fashion) for the other (photography.) I once met a woman whose wedding I’d photographed, and she didn’t recognize me! We were at the ballet and I had on a nice dress, great shoes, and my hair was down. Not my usual working uniform! I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I realized that she didn’t know me because I looked decent.

    Well. Now that I see how you do it, I am inspired to try harder. And I’m going to log on to B&H and buy that D90 right now. As always, thanks for the inspiration!
