The Cut

varsity jacket

I’ve been craving a hair cut for over a year.  I’ve always had long hair and in my family (well my Mum really let’s be honest) long hair was a sign of beauty.  Pretty means long hair – the longer the better.  But I’ve noticed that I was wearing hats almost 100% of the time this past 12 months. Almost every post here has a hat on my head. Don’t get me wrong I love hats but they were covering up failed attempts to style my hair in a way that ‘felt like me.’  The odd good curly day or odd good long straight hair day wasn’t enough.
So I cut it!

Bomber jacket: Zara (old). More light bombers from Asos or Revolve (look at this blue one).  Jeans: Zara (DIY ripped). Cool similar from Asos or these from Shopbop. Shoes: Steve Madden (love). Shades: Ray-Ban. Cuff: Hermes. Similar from Salvatore Ferragamo. Clutch: Zara (old).  Check below for more lookalikes.
What’s weird is that I wasn’t freaking out after it was cut which I thought I would. In fact, I went back to the salon the next day for them to cut off more!! (they gave me a long bob on the first day).
Like I told a friend who’s contemplating a big hair cut; you’ll know when it’s time because it’s a feeling inside that doesn’t leave.  It’s like a bug that you can’t shake – for months if not longer.
That was me.  Operative word being was…
Will I grow it out again? Maybe. But until then I’m actually glad I did it!

Karen, that cut looks good on you…..So Edgy!
With your natural curly/wavy hair texture shaggy styles would compliment this cut as well…
    Enjoy!

Sounds like you don’t need reassurance that it looks fantastic – but it does! Good for you, as a curly haired myself who is sporting a pixie right now, after years of curly bobs and long layers, I, too felt it was time. You really pull it off well!

I agree about the whole long hair=pretty thing… Sometimes it’s hard to shake! I know that the girls I often think look the cooled have shorter edgier do’s 🙂

I know it’s a girl thing for sure that we all deal with speaking in general. Yes to me the coolest most memorable have shorter hair.

I love love love those shoes! They remind of the lace up bathing shoes women wore in the 1920’s to the beach! I need them in my life! Ahhh! Anywho…!! Love the cut! Super modern and chic!

Me too I LOVE them. They run true to size and you only have to tie them once because they zip up the back!

I am glad that you did what you wanted to with your hair. I understand what you mean about long hair being a symbol of beauty. I remember the first time i cut my hair years ago and everyone in my family and family friends were shocked. They exclaimed, “How could you cut off your long jet black hair?” I replied it will grow back and it did and I have cut it since that time and it also grew back. It is not about status symbols, it is about being happy with who you are. Again, way to go, you look great!

First I have to say you look great! I understand what you mean about the long hair thing. I grew up in a family where long hair was a symbol of beauty. The first time that I cut it off years ago; everyone from family to friends of the family were not happy. But I was and told them that it would grow back and it did. Then years later when I felt the need for a change I cut it again and again it grew back. One reason why I enjoy your blog so much is because you do you and do not conform to trends but you always look great!. Keep doing you and again, you are so rockin that hair and look fabulous!
