First thing’s first. I don’t like calling anything “ugly”. There is beauty in every piece of clothing I buy and that involves The Mom Jean. Case in point: I am standing in line waiting to purchase the aforementioned jean and I think the cashier catches me stroking the Mom Jean while I am mentally Instagraming outfit possibilities.
I am not sure why a jean with a high waist and tapered ankles would get me sooo excited, but it does. I’m not talking about the ones Mom rocked when I was younger, I’m referring to the style that has had a slight 2015 fashion facelift. The high waist design is still there, but the denim now comes in a variety of colors and washes. Also let’s not leave out the fit of the new Mom Jean. Most styles from Barneys to ASOS to Topshop have a cut that feel comfortable not stuffed – and what woman doesn’t want to feel comfortable in her jeans? Yeah, didn’t think so.
I think that The Mom Jean has made an impact in the streets of New York and with me because of the oversaturated “ skinny” and “ boyfriend” styles. Trends always seem to appear as a reaction to being bored with and rebelling against what is current and I think that is the ‘why’ appeal for the Mom Jean explained.
Now I just need to find the perfect silk embroidered blouse to wear with mine. So off I go to my fave vintage store. Again.
Tell me that I am not alone in wearing them.

I have two pairs of Mom jeans. They are actually my Mom’s old jeans. They are high waist, with tapered ankles and fit great. I am going to break them in with a little sandpaper and baking soda-vinger wash, so they feel just right. Nothing looks like a good pair of jeans. I hoping to find a few more in her closet that she will be willing to pass along.

First of all, I like “Mom jeans” because they have a high waist and I have an extremely long torso… So, they end up looking rather like ‘regular’ jeans on me! I’m glad to have a variety of fits and styles available.
